Tracking Calories, Meals and Activity in GYMKA

How the Calories tab works: logging food with full macros, saving meals you eat often, netting out the calories you burn, and keeping it all in sync across devices.

Home → Calories is GYMKA's food and energy log. It is built for the lifter's version of nutrition tracking: hit your protein, keep an eye on the total, and do not spend twenty minutes a day on data entry.

Logging a meal

Add a meal with a name and its calories. Protein, carbs, fats and fibre are optional — fill in what you know. The day's totals update as you go, so you can see where you are before dinner rather than after it.

Saved meals

Most people eat the same ten or fifteen things. Save a meal once and it becomes a one-tap entry from then on, searchable by name. This is the difference between tracking for a week and tracking for a year — the friction has to be near zero.

Saved meals and your daily log both live on your account, so the breakfast you saved on your phone is there on the laptop.

Netting out what you burn

The tab also logs activity against the day. A gym session or a cardio activity can be recorded here and its estimated burn is netted against your intake, giving you the number that actually matters.

  • Log an activity directly, with a duration and intensity.
  • Save activities you repeat — your usual push day, your usual commute walk — as one-tap templates.
  • On iPhone, add today's step burn from the Steps panel in the Cardio tab.
  • Cardio sessions you log in the Cardio tab already count here; there is no double entry.

Calorie burn from exercise is an estimate, and every app's estimate is. Treat it as a consistent measure to trend against rather than a precise figure — the direction over weeks is reliable even when the daily number is approximate.

What to actually aim for

GYMKA does not push a diet at you. If you want the arithmetic behind setting a calorie target and a protein goal — TDEE, deficits, surpluses and the evidence behind the protein numbers — our nutrition basics guide covers it, and it is the companion piece to this one.

Clear Day wipes the current day if you want to start over. Nothing else is deleted.

Put it into practice

GYMKA logs every set, estimates your 1-rep max, and shows your strength tier for each lift automatically. It is free to start.
