Getting Started with GYMKA: The Complete Walkthrough

Everything you need to set up GYMKA: creating your account, adding a body profile, choosing units, finding your way around the five tabs, and installing the app on your phone.

GYMKA is a strength-tracking app built around one idea: a number only means something when you can compare it to something. Every feature — tiers, the body map, streaks, the leaderboards — exists to give your logged sets that context. This guide walks through setting the app up from scratch and shows you where everything lives.

1. Create your account

Sign up with an email and password, or continue with Google. You pick a username during sign-up: it is the name other lifters see in the community and on your public profile, and you can change it later in Settings → Account.

Your account is what syncs your data. Log a set on your phone and it is on the web version moments later, because everything lives on the server rather than in one browser.

2. Add a body profile

This is the step people skip, and it breaks the interesting parts of the app. A body profile holds the physical details GYMKA needs to do maths: name, sex, height, age and bodyweight.

  • Tiers need your bodyweight, because strength standards are ratios, not raw kilograms.
  • Calorie estimates for cardio need weight, height, age and sex.
  • Routines, cardio sessions and the body map are all attached to a profile.

Go to the Profiles tab and tap New Profile. You can keep up to two profiles on one account, which is there for couples or a coach tracking one other person — each keeps entirely separate lifts, routines and history. Switch between them with the profile chip at the top of the Workouts and Home screens.

Add a weight entry whenever it changes meaningfully. Your tier is recalculated against your current bodyweight, so a stale weight quietly skews every rank you see.

3. Set your units

Settings → Workout Preferences switches the whole app between kilograms and pounds. It also drives distance: metric shows kilometres, imperial shows miles. Change it whenever you like; nothing is stored in the display unit, so no data is converted or lost.

4. Learn the five tabs

The bar along the bottom is the whole app:

  • Home — logging and analysis. Its own row of tabs holds Log, History, Body, Calc and Calories.
  • Workouts — routines, cardio and the planner, split into Strength, Cardio and Planner.
  • Community — the chat, the rank leaderboards and your direct messages.
  • Profiles — your body profiles, weight history and per-profile details.
  • Settings — account, privacy, appearance, share cards, units, and Apple Health on iPhone.

5. Log one set

Do this before anything else, because most of the app stays empty until you do. On Home → Log, pick an exercise, enter the weight and reps, and log the set. The moment you save, GYMKA estimates your one-rep max, divides it by your bodyweight, and gives that lift a tier. Your body map lights up the muscles it trained, and you earn XP toward your level.

6. Put it on your home screen

GYMKA runs as an installable web app. On Android and desktop your browser will offer to install it; on iPhone use Share → Add to Home Screen. The step-by-step version lives at /install. Installed, it opens full screen with no browser chrome and works offline for everything already loaded.

That is the setup. From here, the guide on logging lifts and reading your tier is the natural next step.

Put it into practice

GYMKA logs every set, estimates your 1-rep max, and shows your strength tier for each lift automatically. It is free to start.
