Cardio in GYMKA: GPS Runs, Logged Sessions and Step History
Track runs live with GPS, log any cardio session with an accurate calorie estimate, review and edit your history, and read your step history on iPhone — all from the Cardio tab.
Workouts → Cardio handles everything that is not a barbell: runs, walks, cycling, swimming, rowing, football, boxing and more. It has two ways in — track a session live, or log one after the fact.
Tracking a run live
Track Run starts live GPS tracking. It follows your route, distance and pace as you go, and when you finish it saves the session with the route attached. Saved runs show a small route trace in your history; tap it for the full map.
Logging a session manually
Log Cardio opens a form: pick the sport, enter the duration, and add distance if the sport has one. Everything else is optional, and each optional field sharpens the calorie estimate:
- Effort — easy, moderate or hard, for sports where intensity varies more than pace.
- Incline or elevation gain — the metabolic cost of climbing is real and significant.
- Average heart rate — if you have it from a watch or strap, it takes priority over everything else.
- Date and time — defaults to now, so you can backdate a session you forgot.
How the calorie number is produced
There is no AI guesswork here. Walking and running use the ACSM equations, which take pace and incline into account. Other sports use validated MET values scaled by your effort. Elevation gain adds the cost of climbing. If you supply an average heart rate, GYMKA uses a heart-rate-based model instead, because that is the most accurate input available. Everything is personalised to the weight, height, age and sex on your body profile.
You can always override the number. The calorie field in the Advanced section accepts a manual value — useful when your watch already gave you a figure you trust more.
History and editing
The History button opens your full cardio record, grouped by day with a per-day calorie total. Filter to the last 7 days, 30 days or all time, and read the totals strip for sessions, time, distance and calories over that range.
Any session can be edited — sport, duration, distance, elevation, heart rate, calories and even the date it happened — or deleted, or shared as a Strava-style image card.
Choosing what the tab shows
The Edit link opens a customizer for the Cardio tab itself. Switch off the weekly summary, the Track Run or Log Cardio buttons, the Apple Health and Steps panels, or switch on a preview of your recent sessions. History is always available.
Steps, on iPhone
On iPhone the Steps panel reads your step count directly from the motion coprocessor — the same source Apple's own Fitness app uses. It needs no Apple Health connection and no setup beyond granting Motion & Fitness access.
- A live counter for today, which updates as you walk and is correct even for time the app was closed.
- Step history: a bar per day, tap one to read that day's steps, distance and estimated burn.
- An optional button to fold today's step burn into your daily calorie total.
The history is independent of the calorie log — it shows what your phone recorded whether or not you ever add it to your calories. The 7-day range comes from the phone itself; connect Apple Health and a 30-day range appears, because Health keeps a longer record than the motion chip does.
Put it into practice
GYMKA logs every set, estimates your 1-rep max, and shows your strength tier for each lift automatically. It is free to start.
